Install alongside Segment
Segment has no Whence destination. You install Whence with its own block, next to your Segment snippet, and you can add a second block that forwards your Segment events to Whence. It takes about 3 minutes.
Step 1: Copy the Whence block
In Whence, open Setup > Install and pick the Segment tab (1). Click Copy (2) on Paste this block.
Step 2: Paste it next to your Segment snippet
Paste the block in the <head> of your pages, next to your Segment snippet.
Step 3: Forward your Segment events (optional)
To see your Segment track calls in Whence too, click Copy (1) on the second block, Forward Segment events, and add it after the Segment snippet.
The block looks like this:
<script>
analytics.on('track', function (event, properties) {
if (window.whence && window.whence.track) window.whence.track(event, properties || {});
});
</script>It forwards each analytics.track call to whence.track, which keeps the visitor consent rules of Whence.
What Whence receives
- Visits and replays from the Whence block.
- Your Segment track events, under their own names, if you add the second block. Segment emits these before its own processing. Event names longer than 60 characters are skipped.
- Segment does not bring orders into Whence. What Whence receives about orders depends on your store platform: see its guide in Install Whence.
Forwarded events wait for consent like everything else Whence records. See Events to find them in Whence.
Consent
Whence reads Google Consent Mode, Cookiebot and OneTrust. With another banner, run whence.consent({ analytics: true, marketing: true }) when the visitor answers. See Which cookie banner to use.
