Reports and alerts

Whence tells you what happened in three ways: a daily report you read in the app, email reports, and alerts that arrive by email or in the app the moment a visitor does something.

Read your daily report · Video 0:20

Step 1: The Reports screen

Find it under Reports in the menu, in both views (near the top in Advanced, last entry in Simple). It needs the Session replays permission.

One report is written per day, overnight, from the day’s visits. The list of days is on the left; the chosen day on the right. Past reports stay as long as your plan keeps your data.

Each report shows:

  • Revenue and Orders of the day, compared with the same day last week. Without the Revenue & orders permission, both keep their place with a lock.
  • Visits analyzed: visits that arrived that day and were read by Whence.
  • Need watching: whether something went wrong.
  • What changed since the previous report: frictions up or down, such as rage clicks, carts left or pages barely read.
  • Fix first: what to fix, each item with Watch to open the replay that proves it.

The titles and advice under Fix first are written by the nightly analysis and appear in English whatever your app language.

Step 2: Email reports

Go to Settings > Notifications (also in the account menu, Notifications), section Email reports:

  • Daily summary (yesterday in one email) and Weekly report (the last seven days). The daily summary is sent on the Connect and Decide plans; the weekly report on every plan.
  • Send at, Weekly report on and Time zone.
  • Main metric, which leads the email and its subject line, and Also include for up to 4 more figures (visits, unique visitors, carts, checkouts, frustrated visits, orders, revenue, ad spend, and more).
  • Send to and Also send to: up to 5 more members, or a whole group. Only members of the account can receive reports.

Each recipient only sees the figures their access allows; a figure they cannot see is left out, never shown as zero. Choosing these reports needs the Store settings permission for the whole account; others see them with a lock.

Step 3: Alerts

In the same section, Alerts lets you hear about it the moment a visitor does something. Click New alert:

  • Tell me when: A visitor arrives, A visitor triggers an event, A visitor shows frustration (any signal or one in particular) or An order is over an amount (needs Revenue & orders).
  • Store: one store, or All stores you can see.
  • How: by email, In the app (bell, sound, desktop), or both.
  • For: just you by default. With the Store settings permission, you can also pick members or groups.

Click Create alert. In-app alerts land in the bell at the top of the screen, where Mark all as read clears them.

Sound and desktop is personal: pick one of twelve sounds (or None) and turn on Desktop notifications to be told even when Whence is in another tab.

Emails and in-app alerts follow each recipient’s language. See Change the app language.
