Connect Funnelish

Funnelish calls Whence each time a purchase is made in your funnel. Whence stores it with your other orders, links it to the visit it came from, and sends the purchase to your active ad platforms, with the same consent rules as your Shopify orders.

What Whence receives

A Funnelish automation with the trigger On Purchase sends a webhook in JSON. Whence reads:

  • each product’s order ID, name, price, quantity and currency; the order total is the sum of the products;
  • the buyer’s email and phone, and the shipping (or billing) city, state, zip and country;
  • the customer meta, where the Whence visitor ID and your UTM parameters travel.

Other events are ignored. Orders placed in Funnelish’s Test Mode are recognized and not counted. An upsell paid separately counts as one more sale. The same order sent twice is stored once.

Funnelish does not retry a failed webhook: keep this connection on. If the address is refused or Whence is unreachable at that moment, that purchase does not reach Whence.

In Whence

Step 1: Get your webhook address

In Whence, open Setup > Connections, find Funnelish under Checkouts and funnels, click Set up, then Create my webhook address. Click Copy next to Your webhook address.

Keep it secret: anyone with this address can send orders to your store in Whence. Funnelish does not sign its webhooks, so the secret part of the address is the proof. Paste it in Funnelish only.

Set it up in Funnelish

Step 2: Create the automation

In Funnelish, open Automations (or the Automations of your funnel) and create an automation with the trigger On Purchase.

Step 3: Add the webhook

Add a Webhook action, paste your Whence address, and save.

Step 4: Add the page script

Copy the Script for your checkout page from the Whence window and paste it in Funnel > Settings > Custom Codes > Tracking Codes, with Append to Page Body. It saves the Whence visitor ID in a hidden field, and Funnelish sends it back in the customer meta.

Step 5: Add the store script, if needed

If visitors reach your funnel from your store, also paste the store script in your store theme (see below).

Step 6: Avoid counting purchases twice

Funnelish can fire its own Meta pixel, without an event ID Whence could reuse. If it does, tick Meta under Does Funnelish already send purchases to an ad platform? Whence will not send a second purchase there. Do the same for any other platform your funnel already reports purchases to. See Deduplication with native pixels.

Step 7: Test it

Click Send a test order. Whence sends a purchase in Funnelish’s format to your own address, so it goes through the real chain. It is never stored.

  • “Test order received and read. It is not counted in your sales.” The window then shows Last test order with the date.
  • “Whence refused this address. Create a new one.” Click New address and paste the new one in your automation.
  • “Whence could not read the test order.” or “The test did not go through. Try again in a moment.”

The tile stays on Waiting for first order until a real purchase arrives, then shows Connected with the number of orders received.

How an order finds its visit

Most reliable: the Whence visitor ID carried to your funnel by the scripts. Otherwise, the same email or phone as a visit in the two hours before the order. Each order keeps which one was used. An order with no match still counts as a sale, without a visit.

For the store script, type your funnel’s domain in Checkout domain (for example checkout.example.com), copy the Script for your store, and paste it in your store theme after the Whence tracker. Links to your funnel then carry the visitor ID, once the visitor has consented. The page script picks it up from the link.

Errors you may see

When the last call could not be stored, the tile shows Error and the window says why:

  • “The last call from Funnelish could not be read. Check that it sends JSON or form fields.”
  • “The last order from Funnelish had no products.”
  • “The last order from Funnelish had no order ID. Check the field mapping.”
  • “The last order from Funnelish had a product without a readable price.”

New address and Disconnect both stop the current address at once. Paste the new address in your automation right away, since Funnelish does not resend missed purchases.

Purchases go to your ad platforms only with marketing consent from the linked visit, as explained in The funnel Whence sends.
