Install on BigCommerce
On BigCommerce, you add the Whence block to every page with Script Manager, then connect your store in Whence so your orders come in.
Step 1: Copy the block
In Whence, open Setup > Install and pick the BigCommerce tab (1). Click Copy (2) on Paste this block. It carries your site key and the address Whence listens on.
Step 2: Create the script in Script Manager
In your BigCommerce control panel, open Storefront, then Script Manager, then Create a Script. Name it Whence and set:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Location on page | Head |
| Select pages where script will be added | All pages |
| Script category | Analytics |
| Script type | Script |
Paste the block in Script contents, then click Save.
Step 3: Create a read-only API account
In your BigCommerce control panel, open Settings, then Store-level API accounts, then Create API account. Name it Whence. Set Orders to read-only and Information & Settings to read-only. Leave everything else on None: scopes cannot be changed later.
Click Save. Copy the Access token, and the store hash: the letters and digits after /stores/ in the API path.
Step 4: Connect BigCommerce in Whence
In Whence, open Setup > Connections. Under Other store platforms, click Connect (1) on the BigCommerce card.
Fill in Store hash and Access token (1), then click Connect BigCommerce (2).
Read-only scopes are enough: Whence never writes to your store. New orders arrive every 15 minutes, starting with the last 60 days.
Step 5: Add the order confirmation script
Once BigCommerce is connected, its Settings in Connections show Two scripts in your Script Manager. Copy the Order confirmation script and add it in Script Manager as a second script:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Location | Footer |
| Pages | Order confirmation |
| Category | Analytics |
| Script type | Script |
It ties each order to the visit that placed it.
What Whence receives
- Visits and replays on every page where the block runs.
- Orders, through the connection, tied to their visit by the order confirmation script.
On BigCommerce, Whence does not send purchases to your ad platforms from the server: they go through the browser pixel only. With that tag on your site, product views, carts and checkouts also go out from the server.
Consent
Whence reads Google Consent Mode, Cookiebot and OneTrust. With another banner, run whence.consent({ analytics: true, marketing: true }) when the visitor answers. See Which cookie banner to use.
