Surveys and announcements
Surveys & announcements lets you talk to visitors on your store: a short survey at the right moment, or an announcement in a corner or full screen. Find it under Engage > Surveys & announcements in Advanced view. In Simple view, open it with Cmd+K (or Ctrl+K).
Creating and editing needs the Store settings permission. Reading results needs Session replays. The list opens with either one.
Surveys and announcements show on your store only after the visitor’s cookie consent, when your store asks for it. See Consent.
The list
Each row shows the Name, the kind (survey with its number of questions, or announcement as Lightbox or Sticker), the Status (Draft, Scheduled, Active, Ended), how many times it was Shown, Answers or clicks, Closed and Updated. Filter with Active, Drafts or Ended. A store holds up to 50 surveys and announcements.
Create a survey
Step 1: Click New survey
Whence starts from a draft you can rewrite, for example “What almost stopped you from buying today?”.
Step 2: Write your questions
Up to 10, shown one at a time. Add them with Add multiple choice (one or several answers, 2 to 10 choices), Add like / dislike, Add rating (1 to 5 or 1 to 10) or Add open-ended. Email addresses and phone numbers typed in open answers are removed. Set a Thank-you message for after the last answer.
Step 3: Choose where and when
- Pages: All pages, Pages whose address contains… or Exactly these pages… (one path per line, starting with
/).
- Devices: Computers and phones, Computers only or Phones only.
- Visitors: Everyone, New visitors or Returning visitors.
- Show it: As soon as the page opens, After some seconds, After scrolling part of the page or When the visitor is about to leave (detected when the mouse leaves the window, so never on phones).
- How often: Once per visitor, Once per visit, or Every visit until answered or closed.
Step 4: Set the status and save
Pick Active: shown on the store, or keep Draft: not shown. Optional Start and End dates schedule it. An active survey must be complete. Click Save survey.
The Live preview uses the same code as your store, on Desktop or Mobile, so what you see is what visitors see.
Create an announcement
Click New announcement, then choose the Format: Sticker: small, in a corner (never blocks the page) or Lightbox: full screen (dims the page until the visitor closes it). Fill in the Title, Text, an optional Button text and Button link (a page of your store like /collections/sale, or a full address), and an optional Image address starting with https://. Pick the Position (on a phone, it sits at the bottom), then the same targeting as a survey. Click Save announcement.
Colors and labels
Colors starts from a neutral style until you pick your brand colors: background, text, secondary text, buttons, button text, borders. Under Button texts, empty labels (Next, Send, Close) follow the language of your store’s page; a label you write is always shown as you wrote it. Show Powered by Whence adds a small line under the box.
Read the results
Click Results on a row. Pick 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or 12 months. Each question shows its answers and their share, the average for a rating, and written answers. Watch opens the visit of the person who answered. Export CSV downloads the answers. For an announcement, you see how often it was shown and clicked.
Visitors who answered also form the ready-made segment Survey respondents (see People).
