Connect Snapchat
Whence sends your store events to Snapchat from the server, through the Conversions API. You copy two values in Snapchat Ads Manager, paste them in Whence, and send a test. Plan on about 5 minutes.
What Whence sends to Snapchat
With your visitor’s marketing consent only, from the server, to your Snap Pixel:
- Checked by default: Product view (VIEW_CONTENT), Add to cart (ADD_CART), Checkout started (START_CHECKOUT), Payment info (ADD_BILLING) and Purchase (PURCHASE), with value, currency and products.
- Unchecked by default: Page view (PAGE_VIEW).
- Matching details: email, phone, name, city, state, zip, country and visitor ID, hashed; IP address and browser; Snapchat’s ad click (ScCid) and browser ID (_scid).
Snapchat needs an email, a phone, or the IP address with the browser, plus the page address. An event without them is not sent (“Not sent: no key to match a person”). Each event carries an event ID for deduplication.
In Snapchat Ads Manager
Step 1: Copy your Pixel ID
In Snapchat Ads Manager, open Events Manager and pick your pixel. Copy the Pixel ID (for example 1ec32188-754e-4be2-8e55-c949a984a39f).
Step 2: Generate a Conversions API token
Open the menu, then Business Details, then Conversions API Tokens, and click Generate Token. Only an Organization Admin sees this section, and the token must belong to the organization that owns the pixel. Copy the token.
In Whence
Step 3: Open Snapchat in Conversions
Open Marketing > Conversions and click Set up (1) on the Snapchat row.
Step 4: Paste your IDs and send a test
- Paste your Pixel ID (1).
- Paste your Conversions API token (2).
- Click Save and send a test (3). No test code is needed.
More options holds the pixel name, the events to send, Product ID sent, Test mode, and Whence also runs the Snapchat pixel in the browser (browser pixel).
In Shopify admin, turn on the Snapchat switch under Conversions sent to your ad platforms (click Show if it is not listed), fill in the same fields, click Save, then Send test event.
Test the connection
Snapchat has a checking address that validates events without recording them. The test uses it: “Snapchat validated the event (not recorded).” Test mode sends every event there until you turn it off, so nothing counts in your campaigns. Details on the Snapchat row has Send a test event and Recent activity, as for the other platforms.
Common errors
- “Pixel ID doesn’t look right. Check the format.” A Snap Pixel ID looks like 1ec32188-754e-4be2-8e55-c949a984a39f.
- “Snapchat: …”: Snapchat’s reason for refusing (invalid token, missing field). A token from another organization than the pixel’s is refused: generate one from the organization that owns the pixel, click Fix, then Update the settings.
- “Snapchat refuses events older than 7 days.” Rare, since Whence sends within hours.
- “Snapchat: your sales may be counted twice.” In the Snapchat Ads app for Shopify, disconnect the pixel (it also sends server events), or let Whence run the Snap Pixel in the browser.
Connecting Snapchat in Setup > Connections reads your ad spend for the Ads screen. While the tile says Whence is waiting for Snap to open its Marketing API access, spend is not available. Conversions work without it.
