Install on any other site
Whence works on any site where you can add code to the page head. There is no plugin to install and nothing else to set up: one block, pasted once.
Step 1: Copy the block
In Whence, open Setup > Install and pick Anything else (1) in the tabs. Click Copy (2) on Paste this block.
Always copy the block from the Install screen: it carries your own site key and the address Whence listens on. It looks like this:
<!-- Whence -->
<!-- Consent: Whence reads Google Consent Mode, Cookiebot and OneTrust.
Another cookie banner? When the visitor answers, run:
whence.consent({ analytics: true, marketing: true }); -->
<script defer src="…" data-site="…" data-ingest="…"></script>Step 2: Paste it in the head of every page
Paste the block into the <head> of every page you want measured. If your platform has a “header scripts” or “custom code” box, that is the place. Whence starts recording the next visit, with no other setup.
Paste the <script> line exactly as copied. Without its data-ingest address, the tracker loads and then stops without recording anything, and without any error.
If you connected Google Analytics or HubSpot in Connections, the Install screen also shows a Connectors line to paste just before the block.
Step 3: On ClickFunnels: Header Code
Pick the ClickFunnels tab (1) and click Copy (2) on Paste this block.
In ClickFunnels 2.0, open the Site & Blog app, then Site Settings. Paste the block in Header Code. It covers your pages, funnels, store, checkout and thank-you pages. Save your settings.
Step 4: On Unbounce: Script Manager
Pick the Unbounce tab (1) and click Copy (2) on Paste this block.
In Unbounce, open Settings, then Script Manager, then Add a Script. Name it Whence, set Placement to Head, and include it on all your domains. Paste the block, save, and republish your pages if Unbounce asks.
Script Manager works on your own domains, not on unbouncepages.com. Remove any copy pasted page by page, or visits count twice.
What Whence receives
- Visits and replays on every page where the block runs.
- Whence does not read orders from these platforms.
- To send conversions to your ad platforms, turn on the browser pixel in Marketing > Conversions and add the tag it gives you before
</body>. Your pages then callwindow.whencePixels.track(…)at each step (product view, add to cart, checkout, payment, order). Purchases go out through the browser only; the other steps also go out from the server.
First-party tracking is available on Shopify and WordPress (WooCommerce included). On other sites, the block loads and sends through the Whence domain, and the First-party tracking card does not appear. See First-party tracking.
Consent
Whence reads Google Consent Mode, Cookiebot and OneTrust. With another banner, run whence.consent({ analytics: true, marketing: true }) when the visitor answers. See Which cookie banner to use.
